Age is just a number for many but once you are above 65 years old, you can avail yourself of many government schemes which are launched for the benefit of the senior citizens. But there are a number of people who are not aware of this. When asked whether there Is any concession on ticket prices for the senior citizens, many said that there was and that in buses many people were getting it.

When asked whether the same concession is available in the local boats which ply between Chatham, Bambooflat and Dundaspoint, no one seemed to know.

Just as the

senior citizens can travel free of cost on State Transport Service (STS) buses, they can also avail of a similar benefit in the boats which ply between Chatham to Bambooflat and Dundas point. According to the information received, there are many old people who are not aware that they can buy one full ticket and use it for travelling to and fro.

The boats plying between Chatham to Bambooflat on a daily basis carry more than 4500 people excluding the monthly pass holders. Those passengers and tourists who are above 60 years can travel on half tickets on boats by showing their Senior Citizen's Card.

"The one who is holding a Senior Citizen's Card can travel on a half ticket, that means paying Rs. 3.50 for the journey. Those who do not carry the Card will have to buy a full ticket at Rs. 7.00/- for the same journey. This facility is available, but some people are still not aware of this," said a person at the ticket counter.

Some of the senior citizens expressed shock when asked about it. "We are not aware of such facilities and we have been buying full tickets whenever we travel. They must make the general public aware of this by posting the information outside the ticket counter and other public places," said one of them.

Golf cart at city railway station to ferry disabled, senior citizens; CHandigarh Railway Station

Golf cart at city railway station to ferry disabled, senior citizens
Golf cart introduced at Chandigarh railway station for senior citizens and disabled.

By: Kartik Kumar
Coming to the aid of senior citizens and physically challenged at the Chandigarh Railway Station, the Northern Railway has deployed an electric golf cart to ferry commuters on the station premises.
The car, being operated by the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation, will be parked at the end of platform number 1, close to the ramps, and will be available free of cost.
"It has been observed that the elderly and the differently abled find it difficult to walk on the platforms. To minimise their inconvenience, electric four-seater carts will be dep

loyed exclusively for them," A K Kathpal, Divisional Railway Manager, Ambala Division, said.
The move comes as a relief for many people who suffered due to the erratic functioning of the escalators at the station and had to use the stairs instead.
Ahmed Nabi, 63, a passenger, welcomed the move and said it would improve the image of the local station. "On my last visit, I could barely climb the stairs. Left with no alternative, I asked a passerby to lift me on his shoulders and help me clear the difficulty. The golf cart facility eased my burden. The railways should keep one on each platform to ensure that the maximum number of people can avail the service."

Senior citizens get discounted service at BPKHIS (Nepal)

Senior citizens get discounted service at BPKHIS

ROHIT RAI

DHARAN, Feb 12 : Elderly people above sixty years of age have been receiving fifty percent discount on treatment fees at BP Koirala Institute of Health and Sciences (BPKIHS) since the last three days.

As per a directive issued by the Health Ministry, seven hospitals in the country are in line to establish a separate ward for elderly people. In the eastern region, BPKHIS is the only hospital to offer geriatric services. Other hospitals to follow suit are Patan Hospital, Bharatpur Hospital, Ayurved Teaching Hospital, Seti Hospital in Dhangadi, Bheri Hospital and Western Regional Hospital.

The directive, which makes fifty percent discount mandatory, instructs hospitals to provide cheapest but best possible treatments for the service seekers. The hospitals can get the discounted amount reimbursed from the ministry.

Although it has already started providing service for the elderly, BPKHIS has not yet created separate wards for them. "We were asked to begin services without any delay, so we had to do it. We are going to create separate wards soon," said director of the hospital Arbind Sinha. "We have already ensured separate counter for the aged people so that they don´t have to stand in queue for long," he added.

Service seekers in the geriatric ward in the hospitals need to produce their citizenship to register their name to avail the services. "Though the card is going to make a huge difference for the elderly, there might be some services which may not be available at discounted rate," said Sunil Parajuli, medical in-charge at BPKHIS.

Elderly people in the capital have been agitating since long time demanding health, travel and other facilities at discounted rates or for free. After the government recently announced to provide fifty percent discount to the elderly people in transportation fare in the valley, they demanded that the facility be extended across the country

Free ECG for senior citizens in Maharashtra

Subject: looking for a tie up with Karmayog for helping senior citizens who are Heart Patients
From: Yogesh Walawalkar <bizyogi@gmail.com>
To: info@karmayog.org

Dear Sir,

'Madhavbaug' is a well known multidisciplinary cardiac care organization with more than 140 clinics and two Hospitals in the State of Maharashtra. It is the originator of the world's first Ayurvedic therapy for cardiac treatment acknowledged and accepted by the international medical organizations and journals. Dr. Sane, Founder of Madhavbaug has presented his research papers on Lancet and WCC platform. Madhavbaug is treating Chronic Heart Failure patients through various treatments devised by late Dr. Madhav Sane. His Son Dr. Rohit Sane is a Modern Medicine Doctor but followed his father's legacy and now the CEO of Madhavbaug clinics and Hospitals.

Our Vision

Our vision is to be the best cardiac care organization in India and to reduce the mortality and morbidity due to heart diseases in India by 2020.

Our Mission

Our mission is to rid the society of heart diseases through well researched innovative therapies based on Ayurveda and modern medicine, public education and extensive reach.

Madhavbaug's concerted efforts in line with its mission of ridding India of heart diseases include -

· · Aarogya Sanskar Health Foundation, a platform with the objective of creating a time bound plan for reducing mortality and morbidity for heart disease

· Heart Health Clubs for past and present patients of all kinds of heart diseases, working like an interest group with the objective of reaching out to more and more people in an informal way

· Formal general and custom seminars for public at large and private or government organizations for creating awareness about heart diseases and educating the people on the ways to prevent them

· Arogya Sanskar magazine as a medium of education and awareness for the educated and health conscious people

· Talk shows, plays, advertisements, camps, campaigns etc , all directed towards cardiac care

It is our sincere belief that the best way to deal with heart diseases is to prevent them. In this respect reaching out to maximum number of people from all strata of the society is the only way forward.

For fulfilling our vision Madhavbaug from last few years through its Trust, actively engaged in the awareness activities, conducting lifestyle modification seminars and workshops for heart patients across Maharashtra through qualified Doctors.

Last year alone Madhavbaug has conducted 4000 such events and reached to almost 2lac people. Almost 60% of such activities conducted were in rural and semi urban areas.

This year we are introducing a program " Aarogyam Hridaysampada" specially for Senior Citizens and have kept a target of conducting 6000 such events and reaching out to 3 lac senior citizens in Maharashtra. We are also going to add screening program in which we will be giving '1 Lac Stress ECGs' free of cost to senior citizens.

The sheer magnitude of the problem and the huge population of India warrant concerted and collaborative efforts of all the agencies, private and public are needed.

We seek the support of Karmyog especially because we feel that we both are working towards a common goal.

I would like you to guide us how we can make our program more effective.

Looking forward for your support...
Regards

Yogesh Walawalkar
