Free med tests for senior citizens, pregnant women | Pune News - Times of India

Good news. I Envy Pune Seniors. Free service Includes radiography - fantastic. To avail these free services, we can't get pregnant but without doing anything one can become a senior citizen.

Many of my teaser comments will be understood only after you read the text of the message forwarded. But that's the purpose of a teaser, don't you agree?

Free med tests for senior citizens, pregnant women

Umesh Isalkar | TNN | Updated: Nov 15, 2017, 00:12 IST

Pune: Senior citizens and pregnant women residing within the civic limits will be able to avail of diagnostic services free of cost at PMC-run hospitals within the next two months.
The benefits of the free-of-cost pathology and radiology services will be granted to all of them, irrespective of their socio-economic background.
"The only condition is that the individual has to be a resident of Pune city and has valid prescription from a medical practitioner, either practising at a public or private hospital or clinic," said Sanjeev Wavare, assistant medical officer of health, PMC.
The health department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has outsourced the diagnostic work to a private service provider and the work order will be issued in the next few days.
The project will roll out by the end of January 2018.
PMC officials said the civic body will provide space, water and electricity at the hospitals and the private laboratory will bear expenses of rest of the components, including installation of diagnostic machinery and subsequent operational costs.
Besides senior citizens and pregnant women, the rest of the citizens can enjoy the benefits rates lower than those offered under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS).
"We have kept the rates 6% lower than the CGHS expenses. Our aim is to ensure that the maximum number of people can avail of the benefits of the diagnostic services. Prices of such services have over the years gone over the roof in the private sector," Wavare said.
Patients under the PMC's urban poor health scheme can avail of services at charges reduced further by 50%. The remaining 50% will be borne by the municipal corporation, for which a budgetary provision of Rs 2 crore has been proposed for the for 2017-18 financial year.
Health activists, however, said outsourcing of the diagnostic work to the private sector by the civic body was an inefficient way of providing services.
"There is an urgent need for standard treatment guidelines. Otherwise, the patients will be subjected to unnecessary tests to raise the number of cases, make more profits and pocket cuts," veteran health activist Anant Phadke said.
"Besides, it has to be seen how do they run the services on a long-term basis because there have been instances of charges of such services being raised at subsequent stages in the past," he added.
The city has an estimated 14 lakh people (around 40% of the city's population) living in slums. They are the people who are mostly deprived of basic medical facilities and the civic body is mainly responsible to cater to their healthcare.

Provide doorstep banking to those above 70 by Dec 31: RBI

PTI
November 9, 2017 | UPDATED 22:10 IST

Mumbai, Nov 9 (PTI) Senior citizens of more than 70 years of age and the differently-abled can look forward to availing of basic banking services, right from the comfort of their home.
The RBI today asked banks to provide doorstep banking facilities to senior citizens of more than 70 years of age and differently-abled persons by December this year.
Banks have been directed that senior citizens and specially-abled persons, including the visually-impaired, should be provided basic services like pick-up and delivery of cash, chequebooks and demand drafts at their residence.
Issuing a notification in this regard, the RBI said "it has been observed" that there are occasions when banks discourage or turn away senior citizens and differently-abled persons from availing banking facilities in branches.
"... in view of the difficulties faced by senior citizens of more than 70 years of age and differently-abled or infirm persons (having medically certified chronic illness or disability) including those who are visually impaired, banks are advised to make concerted effort to provide basic banking facilities...," the RBI said in a communication to banks, including small finance and payments banks.
These facilities should include pick-up of cash and instruments against receipt, delivery of cash against withdrawal from accounts, delivery of demand drafts, submission of Know Your Customer (KYC) documents and Life Certificates at the premises or residence of such customers.
"Banks are advised to implement these instructions by December 31, 2017, in letter and spirit and give due publicity in their bank branches and websites," it said.
The RBI noted that notwithstanding the need to push digital transactions and use of ATMs, it is imperative to be sensitive to the requirements of senior citizens and the differently-abled.
The notification further said that in addition to the facility of Digital Life Certificate under Jeevan Praman Scheme, pensioners can submit physical Life Certificate form at any branch of the pension-paying bank.
"However, it is observed that often the same is not updated promptly by the receiving branch in the Core Banking Solution (CBS) system of the bank, resulting in avoidable hardship to the pensioners," it noted, asking banks to ensure that when a Life Certificate is submitted in any branch, including a non-home branch, the same should be updated and uploaded promptly in the CBS.
The RBI asked banks to provide a minimum of 25 cheque leaves every year for a savings bank account free of charge. They should not insist on physical presence of any customer, including senior citizens and differently-abled persons, for getting cheque books.
Banks have also been advised that a fully KYC compliant account should automatically be converted into a Senior Citizen Account based on the date of birth available in the banks records.
According to the apex bank, banks should provide senior citizens and differently-abled persons Form 15G/H (related to tax deduction at source) once a year (preferably in April). PTI NKD ARD

Senior citizens to get 50% concession in city bus fare

Proshun Chakraborty | TNN | Updated: Sep 14, 2017, 12:56 IST

NAGPUR: Come October 2, senior c

itizens (above the age of 60 years) will get 50% concession in bus fares in city. This move will cost NMC Rs50 lakh per annum. The civic body has already given concession to freedom fighters.
The decision was taken in transport committee's meeting held on Wednesday headed by Jitendra Kukde. He told TOI that the transport department has already made a provision of Rs50 lakh each for concessions to school students and senior citizens in its budget.
"Currently, senior citizens are charged full fare in city buses whereas they are getting concession in state-run buses," Kukde said and hence the NMC has decided to give 50% concession to senior citizens in city buses.
After getting poor response from commuters due to very high fares, the meeting also decided to bring down tariff of green buses. Kukde said the NMC is planning to cut the fare by almost 40%. "We will try to keep the difference of both red and green buses fares by Rs2 to Rs3," the transport Kukde said.
Citing an example, he said the minimum fare of a red bus is Rs10, whereas the fare of same distance for Green bus is Rs16. So passengers prefer to travel in red buses, he said.
Presently, NMC's transport department is plying only five green buses though five more ethanol-run buses have joined the fleet. These five buses are plying on six different routes from Sitabuldi to Pipla Phata, J N Hospital (Kanhan), Hingna Rural hospital, Mihan, Khapri Phata, Defence and Butibori.
The department has also decided to ply special buses for Koradi temple during 10 days of Navratri festival. The NMC will ply 38 buses which will make 278 trips from five different areas like Sitabuldi, Kamptee, Hudkeshwar, Gorewada and Ayachit Mandir to Koradi temple.
Similarly, the civic body will provide city bus service for Deekshabhoomi during Dhammachakra Pravartan Din from 12 different destinations to Deekshabhoomi. It will operate 95 buses which will make 730 trips from September 29 and October 1.
Drawing a lesson from recent strike by conductors and drivers, the committee has given its nod to hire daily wagers from health department to work for city bus service during afternoon hours, said Kukde. The committee also approved formation of a flying squad to keep watch on ticket checkers of DIMTS. "We also approved a proposal to move scrapped buses parked in Hingna depot to pave way for rolling buses," Kukde said.

Ola To Offer 20 Percent Discount To Senior Citizens
Written By: Sukesh Suvarna

Updated: Saturday, June 17, 2017, 11:38 [IST]

App-based cab aggregator Ola has announced the expansion of its unique
initiative 'Senior Citizen Mobility Program' in Nagpur and three other cities.
Ola's initiative aims at making mobility more affordable to the elderly. The senior citizens (60 years and above) who register for this program will get 20 percent discount on their first ten rides every month.

Apart from that, the first ten Ola auto rides can be availed at a discount of 15 percent. The discount scheme is currently available in Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Indore, Bhopal, Mumbai and Pune.

Associate Director (Operations) of Ola, Kiran Brahma said, "At Ola, we want to make mobility convenient and hassle-free for all. Senior citizens represent a group of individuals who have served the nation well."

To avail the discount, the senior citizens should register online through a link. They also need to submit the proof of identity and age. After the verification, the senior citizens can start taking Ola rides.

We have seen government transport offering discounts to senior citizens. But very rarely we see a private firm taking up such an initiative. It's good to see that ride-hailing companies are concerned about the senior citizens of the country.

Japan is offering discount on funerals, know why
In order to prevent the accidents, Japan has introduced a new rule under which drivers aged 75 or older must pass driving tests when renewing their licences

News StalkerMar 22, 2017

It may sound quite bizarre, Japan is asking its senior citizens to give up driving and in return, they are being offered discounts in their funerals. In a bid to prevent accidents caused by ageing motorists, aged people are being encouraged to give up driving. There has been a rise in the incidents of fatal accidents involving elderly drivers.

In order to prevent the accidents, Japan has introduced a new rule under which drivers aged 75 or older must pass driving tests when renewing their licences.

A funeral service company in central Japan, Aichi Prefecture has started offering a 15 per cent discount to elderly drivers who give up their licences. The discount applies not just when the drivers who give up their licences die but also when their close family members die. The elderly drivers can save a minimum of 56,000 yen (USD700).

Japan has a population which is growing old fast and approximately 4.8 million people aged 75 or more have a licence.

Earlier in November 2016, a six-year-old boy died and 11 others were injured after an 87-year-old driver's truck rammed children walking to school in Yokohama, Tokyo.

Police in Aichi also started offering a ramen noodle discount to elderly drivers who give up their licences.

Senior citizens, living below the poverty line, will now get for free assistive devices like hearing aids and wheelchairs under the government's Rs 477 crore scheme which is set to be rolled out next week. The proposed 'Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojna' will be launched at a camp in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district on March 25 by Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot and Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu.

A similar camp will be organised on March 26 in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain district. "The aim of the scheme is to bring the older people from the economically weaker sections into active life and build an aged-friendly society by providing them with devices to maintain near normalcy in morbidity," said a senior official in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

The government has set a target of distributing assistive living devices among 2,000 identified beneficiaries for free in each camp, he added.

"Following this, the camps will be organised in two districts of each state for the whole year. The Minister, in December last year, had written to all the chief ministers to identify the beneficiaries in those districts," the official said.

The devices to be distributed among the beneficiaries will be of high quality and conform to the standards laid down by the Bureau of Indian Standards.
He said that to avail the facilities under the scheme, a beneficiary should be of at least 60 years and will have to be certified by competent authority as a person living below the poverty line.
According to the official, the department had suggested three names for the scheme out of which the Prime Minister's Office has given nod to 'Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojna'.
The scheme aims to address the disabilities like low vision, hearing impairment, loss of teeth and locomotor disability.
The beneficiaries will get walkers, crutches, wheelchairs, tripods, spectacles, hearing aids and dentures among others.
"The government wanted to roll out the scheme in January, but had to postpone it in view of the assembly elections in five states," he said.
There are 10.38 crore senior citizens in the country as per the Census of 2011 and 5.2 per cent of them suffer from some sort of old age-related disability.
"It is projected that the number of senior citizens will increase to around 173 million by 2026," the official added.

"There is absolutely no cause for panic. We are not going after everyone who deposited their holding of the demonetised currency in bank accounts between November 8 and December 30, 2016. The markers are very clear set for tax department to take up deposits for verification. I repeat, it is for verification and not scrutiny or assessment," senior Finance Ministry official said.

The official also said that these verifications are being done online and any person of up to 70 years of age, who has deposited more than Rs 2.5 lakh in cash, has to go to I-T department website and explain the source of deposit.

If the deposits match with previous income tax returns, the verification will be closed at that stage itself, and if there is a suspicion on deposits not matching with known sources of income, further clarifications will be sought.

"The threshold for further verification of cash deposits is Rs 2.5 lakh for persons upto 70 years age, and Rs 5 lakh for taxpayers above 70 years where the source of such deposits is household savings and savings from past income and the individual does not have any business income," he said.

The official added that even the further non-statutory clarifications will be sought without issuing a show-cause or any notice. "No inquiry or third party verification will be initiated outside the e-verification."

The online verification of deposits made is being done to reduce compliance cost for persons under verification, he said.

Email and SMSes were sent to persons under verification for submitting online response on the e-filing, he added those who have not yet registered on the e-filing portal must do so immediately.

-- JAIPUR: Over 1000 pilgrims of economically poor background aged 70 years and above will fly free to the religious destinations---Tirupati, Rameshwaram, Dwarka and Jaganathpuri courtesy Devasthan Vibagh of Rajasthan department. The first flight to Chennai for Tirupati Darshanwill take off from Jaipur airport on February 28. A private 'premier' airline has been allocated the charge of ferrying pilgrims.

"Every day a batch of 30-90 pilgrims will fly down to the nearest airport to the chosen religious destination. Till date 700 pilgrims have been selected via lottery and date of de partures have been allocated o them. By the end of March he traget of 1000 pilgrims would be completed," said Raj Kumar Rinwa, minister of Devasthan Vibhaj.

Rajasthan is among the few states which are sponsoring the pilgrimage through trains since 2013. The minister informed that state is first in the country to sponsor free aerial pilgrimage. Neither these elderly persons have the money to be ar the train expenses nor does their health allow them to send through trains, says Rinwa while explaining the objective choosing the aerial route over the phone from an election rally in Uttar Pradesh."This move is inspired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi ambition of inclusive growth and formation of an equal society ," said Rinwa.

It has inspired and motivated us to increase the number of free aerial pilgrimages from the next financial year," said Rinwa. The minister shared the cost of air tickets to be around Rs 1.75 crore, which he claims is far more economical than sending pilgrims through trains. "Our free pilgrimage package includes lodging, boarding, food, medical and assistance from helpers. For every 50-60 passengers, we have 3-4 helpers who assist them in the train and outside. Train journey to Tripati takes 2-3 days and by aerial route around 12 hours," said Rinwa.
