New Delhi , Jan 25 : Taxi aggregator Ola has announced a first-of-its-kind initiative for Senior Citizens in Pune, to make mobility more accessible and affordable for them.

Under the newly launched program, if the senior citizens register for Ola's Senior Mobility program, then they can enjoy a discount of 50 percent on first 10 Ola cab rides every month.

This offer has been extended to Ola Autos as well, as part of which, registered senior citizens can avail a discount of flat 20 percent on all Ola Auto rides.
Alongside this program, Ola has partnered with the Association of Senior Citizens Organizations Pune (ASCOP) that shelters over 50 local senior citizens' clubs. This partnership will help Ola pass on the benefits of the program to hundreds of thousands of senior citizens who are actively involved in various community services.

To avail discounts, Individuals above 60 years of age, are required to register here. Once verified and confirmed (within 72 hours), Senior Citizens can start taking Ola rides at just half the price.

"Senior Citizens are one of the most valuable assets of the nation, and a source of great inspiration to our youth. Ola's Senior Mobility Program is our way of showing gratitude to these Individuals, for whom age is just a number. With this program, we're enabling these active Individuals to enjoy complete freedom of mobility without any dependence on anyone," said Business Head Pune Ola, Kiran Brahma.

"It's heartening to see Ola come forward and extend its support in both promoting our 'No Self Driving' campaign and offer rides at half the fare, to our members. These discounts will go a long way in benefitting financially unstable Senior Citizens and offer a safe, convenient and affordable way to travel for all," said Joint Secretary – ASCOP, Dilip Pawar.

Through the initiative Ola endeavors to get a step closer in on-boarding senior citizens towards PM's vision of Digital India.

The company has received thousands of applications till date, and is confident of including tens of thousands more over the course of next week.
While the offer is currently valid in Pune, the company might take this to other parts of the country, over the next few months.

Senior citizens need to sign up for this program by filling up an online registration form along with submission of identity and age proof. The last date to register for this program is 31st January 2017.

This Mumbai doctor’s new year’s resolution it to consult elderly patients for free

I
n this connection I wish to attach a list of doctors (all disciplines) / hospitals / nursing homes / diagnostic labs in hyderabad that have (once) agreed to offer suitable discount in their fee for senior citizens. Is there someone ready to volunteer to update this list?
Then I can discuss on one to one basis how to go about this task.
==================================================

New year's resolutions are notorious to be casual statements that are broken too easily by us, but this is one resolution that comes from conviction and compassion. A doctor from Mumbai has announced that he will treat every patient, who is above 70 years of age, absolutely free!

Dr. Dheeraj Mulchandani

Dr. Dheeraj V. Mulchandani, a general surgeon practising in Colaba, has decided to treat all senior citizens above 70 years free of cost at his clinic. He says that this is his way of giving back to the society.

"I hope that my kids learn the importance of respecting their elders and offering them their dignity," Dr. Mulchandani wrote in his blog while making the announcement.

The 36 years old doctor who is father of two children, said that this decision was triggered by some incidents he witnessed at his clinic, especially related to an elderly woman who was abandoned by her family and was living alone. She had been avoiding treating her illness for months as she worried that she might run out of the little money that she had.

There was another elderly patient who just wanted someone to listen to her problems. "She broke down crying when I offered just a few kind words of support. All she needed was some love and kindness and a patient hearing," Dr. Mulchandani recalled.

Moved by these incidents, and also because of the fact that his own mother had been suffering from a chronic back pain where she needed attention and time of her family, Dr. Mulchandani vowed to give this time, attention and care to all elderly citizens.

"I am a general surgeon but I will help in all general illnesses that a general physician would otherwise treat, as well as any surgical consultation if required would be free. Of course, I won't be able to offer surgery free, but minor procedures, if feasible at the clinic itself, would be possible," Dr. Mulchandani told OpIndia.com

He further told us that he doesn't expect any private hospital to do such charity at an institutional level as they have to make money to maintain the standards expected today, but as a private citizen, he will do his bit and hope that it inspires others.

He also said that of late, some malpractices by the medical community has come to light and thus it's important this his generation of doctors can clean up the system and make the profession better and honourable again. Dr. Mulchandani completed his medical studies from the University of Pune in 2001.

Those interested can visit his clinic at A-7, Sangam Bhavan, Ground Floor, opp. Strand Cinema, Colaba, Mumbai 400005.

"The timings are 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. My distinguished seniors can walk in anytime. There is no restricted time for them," he said.
