Free assistance facility to senior citizens by Maya Care

For the last 13 years, Maya Care has been providing free facilities to all the needy senior citizens to fulfill their emotional-intellectual transport needs so that they can live a happy and independent life.
These include taking the seniors to hospital, helping them with bank work, helping them with government work, fetching medicines from shops, taking them for a walk in the garden, helping them make video calls, reading and writing for them, playing recreational games, and organizing various events for them. Help is provided entirely free of charge with the help of loyal volunteers.
Currently this organization works in 63 cities in India and 5 cities in UK. *In Maharashtra Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Solapur, Nasik, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Ahmednagar, Nandurbar, Amravati, Jalgaon, Parbhani, Chandrapur, Yavatmal, Akola, Buldhana, Wardha, Dhule, Beed, Jalna, Pune and Mumbai. More than 120 persons with disabilities (in Bindu group) are doing the work sitting at their homes. Due to this, they are getting employment and they are also becoming self-reliant. Through this organization, senior citizens have been visited more than 15000 times so far.
It aims to empower the elderly to lead independent, happy and comfortable lives in their own homes and nursing homes, assisted living and to empower the disabled to become self-reliant entrepreneurs by working from their own homes. The work of the organization is going on in this direction.

CHENNAI: The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) will commence distribution of tokens to elderly commuters for free travel in buses for January-June period from December 21.
People above the age of 60 years are eligible for free travel on MTC buses 10 times a month under a scheme introduced in February 2016.
Upon submitting an application and proof of age, 10 tokens for free travel will be issued.
Tokens issued will be valid for six months from January to June. To apply afresh, beneficiaries may submit the application form along with address proof (ration card) and proof of their age (Aadhaar, driving licence, voters' ID and educational certificates) and two colour passport size photos at any of the 40 depots or terminus in the city. To renew, they need to bring the old free travel card.
The tokens would be issued from 8 am to 7.30 pm at 40 centres from December 21 to January 31.
From February 1, the tokens will be available at the respective depots during the office hours.

Brahmastra Heading To A Flying Start
In recent updates, the Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer Brahmastra was heading for a flying start based on the advance bookings the film is enjoying.
The Ayan Mukherji directorial Brahmastra had sold nearly 1,17,000 tickets at PVR multiplex chain for the opening weekend as of Tuesday morning.
PVR Cinemas took to social media announcing that Brahmastra has sold over 1 lakh tickets for its opening weekend, in an official announcement from the cinema chain last night.

Kochi: In a fresh effort to increase passenger footfall, the Kochi Metro offers 50% discount on ticket fare to senior citizens and one person who accompanies the senior citizen.
The new system would come into effect from Thursday. Senior citizens in the age group of 75 and above can avail the benefit by showing age proof at the customer care counters at the Metro stations. Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) authorities have informed that the facility is being introduced with an aim to attract all kinds of people irrespective of age group to the Metro train services
CHENNAI: The MTC has extended its free bus token scheme for senior citizens in Thiruvallur. Till this week, suburban residents aged 60 or above were denied free commute in MTC buses. Only those residing in Chennai metropolitan area were covered under this government scheme. Under the scheme launched by MTC in 2016, senior citizens are eligible for free travel in all categories of buses except air-conditioned ones. On submitting an application and proof of age, 10 tokens are issued in the nearest depot. Though buses were operated from Thiruvallur district headquarters to Poonamallee, Avadi and Red Hills, not extending the scheme to these areas caused a lot of hardship for commuters, rued Raghavendra Bhat Kadekar, a resident-activist from Thiruvallur. During the pandemic, many senior citizens had to travel frequently to local government hospitals for vaccinations and check-ups. Every time they had to pay 50 for buses and almost five times more for autos, said Bhat. This is when K Baskar from Thiruvallur passengers' welfare association filed a complaint with the Chief Minister's Special Cell. Based on this, the scheme guidelines were revised. Accordingly, from this week, residents (whose pincode begins with '602', '603' etc) can also apply and get these tokens. Around 40,000 elderly passengers are expected to benefit from this move. Welcoming this, Baskar said, "In Karnataka, senior citizens are charged half-tickets in long distance buses. So, such privileges are very helpful for elderly people, whose income is already on the decline. While retired public servants manage with pensions, those from the private sector live hand to mouth". However, MTC has told beneficiaries to apply and collect tokens from Poonamalle or Avadi. It will be helpful if the distribute tokens at Thiruvallur depot, Sriperumbudur, Ponneri and Gummidipoondi counters itself, he said.

The minister on Wednesday convened a meeting with MLA Saianna, Cantonment board CEO Ajith Reddy and water works officials at Cantonment board. Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the free drinking water supply scheme is being implemented from February 1. "Each household in the cantonment will be given 20,000 litres of free drinking water every month which will an additional burden of Rs 1.5 crore on the government," he said.
GANDHINAGAR: Soon, you will not be required to pay a visit to costly
clinics or even nearby government medical facilities for consultation
of an ailment. In fact, you will also not need to rush to a pharmacy
to purchase medicines. The Gujarat government has begun work on a
project to provide free medical consultation over the phone and
provide free medicine to your doorstep.
The service is expected to be launched in the next 2-3 months across
all major cities, after which it will be extended to smaller towns and
villages.

department, said, "On the basis of Centre's suggested model, we will
shortly launch eSanjeevani OPD to provide free telemedicine
consultation to all citizens. Moreover, citizens will not need to go
anywhere for medicines. Through e-prescriptions, patients will receive
suggested medicine at their doorstep in the minimum possible time,
totally free."
The official added that, at present, the government is in the process
of selecting agencies that will provide trained doctors for
telemedicine consultation and distribute free medicine to citizens on
the basis of e-prescriptions. "This system will prove to be a game
changer for senior citizens and those who find it difficult to visit a
doctor and even for those who cannot afford medicines from pharmacies.
Initially, the government will roll out the consultation service.
Later, we will offer regular medicine supply," the official said.
"The eSanjeevani OPD and medicine supply services will also be in sync
with nearby government hospitals for treatment of citizens like
further diagnosis and operations etc. We aim to start a pilot project
in a few places. Then, we will implement the project across the state
in the coming months. This service will revolutionise the public
health service in the state," Shivahare said.
He added that apart from ensuring that senior citizens and those who
cannot travel get medical service at their doorstep, the service will
lessen the burden on public health facilities.

New Delhi: In a bid to provide free transport service for women and senior citizens, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday flagged off 25 buses exclusively for women and senior citizens to travel within the city of Guwahati. Discounts in train fares for senior citizens likely to resume soon
The Indian Railways may resume the discounts it offered in fares
before 20 March 2020. Ramesh Chandra Ratna, chairman of the Railway
Board's Passenger Service Committee, said that the Railways is now
preparing to start many other facilities as well. Railway Minister
Ashwini Vaishnav is studying it. It is expected that many concessions
including those for senior citizens will start soon.
Talking to Zee News about this, Ramesh Chandra Ratna, Chairman of
Railway Board's Passenger Service Committee said that due to
coronavirus, the Railways had stopped the concessions given to the
senior citizen, but now there is a possibility that in the future, the
discount on train fare will resume.
"The feedback we got during the inspection of railway facilities will
be kept in the railway board meeting on December 28. In this matter,
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav ji is reviewing with great speed,"
he said.
Indian Railways used to provide many concessions to senior citizens
before the pandemic. Earlier, women used to get 50 percent discount in
rail fares and there was 40 percent concession for men. For this, the
minimum age limit should be 58 years for women and 60 years for men.
In July 2016, the Railways made the exemption given to the elderly
optional while booking tickets. After that, after 20 March 2020, this
exemption was suspended due to the lockdown in wake of coronavirus.
During this period, about four crore senior citizens had to pay the
full fare for their journey. This information has come to the fore
through an RTI. In response to RTI, Railways has said that between
March 22, 2020 to September 2021, 3,78 50,668 senior citizens have
travelled in trains.

special discount of 10-15% to senior citizens on flights. Indigo
Spicejet GoAir and Air Asia.

Qualified Disabled Working Individual (QDWI)
If you are under 65 and disabled, but have gone back to work, then you’re no longer eligible for premium-free Medicare Part A. QDWI will pay your premium if you are eligible. To qualify, your income must be at or below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) and your resources must be below $4,000 if you’re single or $6,000 if you’re married.
Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB)
If you qualify, QMB will cover your Medicare Part A and Part B deductible and copayments or coinsurance. Your income has to be below the FPL, and you must have resources of less than $7,860 if you’re single or $11,800 if you’re married.
Qualifying Individual (QI)
This covers your Medicare Part B premium. It’s available on a first-come, first-served basis. To be eligible, you must have an income between 120 percent and 135 percent of the FPL and your resources have to be less than $7,860 if you’re single or $11,800 if you’re married.
Specified Low-Income Beneficiary (SLMB)
SLMB covers your Medicare Part B premium if you are eligible. To qualify for SLMB, you have to have a disability and an income between 100 percent and 120 percent of the FPL. Your resources have to be less than $7,860 if you’re single or $11,800 if you’re married.
Extra Help
Extra Help is a program run jointly by Medicare and Social Security. It’s for people with lower incomes and limited resources and can help with low cost prescriptions.

Prescription Drug Assistance Programs
Prescription drug assistance is another benefit Medicaid provides to seniors.
These may be paid through State Pharmaceutical Assistance Programs. Many states and the U.S. Virgin Islands will provide financial assistance to help seniors pay for their prescription drug costs as well as premiums for their drug coverage.
Drug stores, eyeglass retailers and other health services frequently offer senior discounts that can save you money whether you are on Medicare or still using your employer’s insurance.
The age to qualify for these discounts varies, but it’s wise to ask.

It appears that grocery stores are phasing out senior discounts in favor of overall savings, according to some groups that follow these trends.

There were more than 12.4 million veterans 65 and older according to the 2012 U.S. Census brief. Elderly veterans are eligible for a wide range of benefits from the U.S. Veterans Administration.

Assam Launches Free 'Pink Bus' Service For Women And Elderly People

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal flagged off 25 'pink' buses at an event at Assam Administrative Staff College Khanapara, Guwahati on January 9. 'Pink bus' is a free transport service launched by the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) under a new scheme called 'Bhraman Sarathi'. This service is exclusively for women and senior citizens of Guwahati to travel within the city.
The Chief Minister said, "Transport services must be made accessible to all sections of the populace irrespective of gender. Safe transport services are a basic right of all, especially for women and senior citizens of the State. The new bus service of the Assam State Transport Corporation would give a new dimension to the state governments welfare measures in the new year. I urge all commuters to take care of these buses which will ply in five routes of the city. "
These buses, painted in pink, will ply on some of the busiest routes of Guwahati through the day. This will provide fast, convenient and safe commuting to women and senior citizens of the city. A total of 25 pink buses have been running in the city right now. ASTC plans to increase the number of buses in the city. Moreover, the division also plans to roll this service out in other districts of the state in the future

Gurugram liquor vends: Special queues for women, senior citizens and corona warriors
After almost 45 days of lockdown, the tipplers in Gurugram had something to cheer on Wednesday with the opening of liquor vends.
The high spirits were clearly visible in the "socially distanced" way as people stood patiently in kilometres long queues battling high temperature and soaring sun.
However, what made the Gurugram vends different was the liquor shops went on reserving special queues for women, senior citizens, specially-abled and even corona warriors who were also given special discounts.
"Like any other industry or citizen, we owe a lot to corona warriors and thus to salute them we not just made special queues for them but also have discounts to doctors and other frontline warriors. As far as women are concerned, they are regular customers and keeping their convenience in mind we reserved them separate queues," said a vend owner of DLF city.
Interestingly showing solidarity with the soldiers killed in Hundwara, one of the liquor vend owners in Baadshahpur area offered special discounts and queues for Army veterans and even gave free liquor to next of kin of martyrs on production of valid I-cards.
"This is all I can do. We come from a village where every house has a soldier and thus this is what we could do for them. Liquor is like any commodity. Had I been running a grocery store, I would have given grocery for free," said Satish Yadav, the vend owner.
Day one meanwhile kept Gurugram police on its toes that toiled the entire day keeping people and vehicles in check.
Interestingly the number of vehicles increased by 40 per cent today as compared to last two days of lockdown relaxation.
It was however the border which proved to be tougher fight with many people from Delhi trying to enter Gurugram to get liquor stock citing closure of vends in their areas or increased liquor rates.
"The police had extra workload but we pulled it off perfectly. Unlike national pictures of chaos at vends we ensured social distancing and no nonsense. We have told all vend owners and people that self-discipline is key to keep things running. Any kind of chaos and we will shut the shops," said CP Mohammad Akil.
The ongoing 39th India International Trade Fair at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi will open for general public from today. The event which began from 14th of November will continue till 27th of this month.
The first five days of the event were reserved for business.
This year the theme of the fair is 'Ease of Doing Business'. People can visit the fair from 9.30 A.M. to 7.30 P.M. For visitors during weekdays, ticket charges will be 60 rupees for adults and 40 rupees for children.
On Saturday, Sunday and any public holiday, the tickets will be 120 rupees for adult and 60 rupees for children.
However, entry for senior citizens will be free on presentation of valid documents with photo.
Tickets are available at 66 metro stations, excluding Pragati Maidan metro station and entry gates of the trade fair.

NEW DELHI: After putting in place rules to punish unruly flyers, the government has now asked airlines and airport operators to ensure a good flying experience to passengers at airports — especially from the time they check-in to when they reach boarding gates.
Accordingly, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) chief Arun Kumar has directed that airports, Indian carriers and foreign airlines operating to India must facilitate all passengers, especially senior citizens, expectant mothers, passengers with disability and first time travellers.
In an order issued last week, the regulator has warned the service providers "shall be liable of penal action as per the provisions of the Aircraft Act… and other relevant provisions of Indian Penal Code." If they fail to do so. "As all passengers are very important, valued and esteemed customers, any incident of misdemeanour, discourteous behaviour and harassment shall be dealt by the airline/airport operator on top priority basis and shall be reported to DGCA," says the order dated August 2.
"Airline/airport operator shall ensure provision of automated buggies free of charge for all senior citizens, expectant mothers and disabled passengers in the terminal building to facilitate their access to boarding gates located beyond reasonable walking distance at all airports having annual aircraft movements of 50,000 or more. This facility may be extended to other needy passengers on demand basis free of charge," the rule says.
"Airport operators shall provide small trolleys after security check for carriage of hand baggage up to the boarding gate. Airport operator shall adequately display information regarding availability of automated buggies and small trolleys in the terminal building a prominent locations including dos and don'ts regarding the same. This shall also be published on the website of the airport operator," it adds.
Airlines and airport operators will need to display the contact details of their contact person for passenger grievance redressal. "Airlines/airport operators shall ensure that all the complaints are acknowledged immediately to the complainant and redressed at the earliest but not exceeding one month. In case of non-redressal of the matter within the stipulated time frame, the complainant has the option to lodge his complaint at 'AirSewa' web-portal/mobile application or take up the matter with any other statutory body set up under relevant applicable laws for resolution," Kumar's order adds.
The order extends to the ground staff of airlines and airports who are engaged in passenger handling. They must be "extremely polite and courteous behaviour towards the travelling public. They shall render all assistance to facilitate their travel." The ground handling interacting with passengers staff will need to be given "periodic soft skill training for sensitisation, courtesy, behaviour and procedures for assisting the passengers."
"Although the primary objective of all stakeholders is to provide safe, efficient and reliable air transportation, the improvement in facilities and service standards is much required. There is a need to… create much more passenger friendly environment in aviation. With the expansion of airports, distances to check-in counters security hold area and boarding gate has increased manifolds requiring passengers lugging their carry-on baggage to cover long distances," the order itself explains why it is being issued.

Most of airlines and airports have outsourced passenger handling services. These outsourced "vendors have high attrition rate, resulting in inability in to provide quality services to passengers. Further, passengers remain most unattended after the check-in is completed till they arrive at the boarding point, which has caused increase in number of passenger complaints in the recent past."
"It is imperative to strengthen customer service skills at airport level especially in areas of courtesy and behaviour by all stakeholders to mitigate passenger inconvenience and make air travel a pleasant experience…. facilities for the travellers also need to be upgraded which have been necessitated with the increasing size and upgradation of airports," it says.

The Rajasthan government has decided to fly its senior citizens free of cost to three more pilgrimage destinations, including Pashupatinath temple in Nepal, an official statement said Thursday.
The two other destinations that the state's elderly residents would be flown free this year onward are Dehradun and Kolkata en route to shrines in Uttarakahd and West Bengal.
Besides adding three more "pilgrimage-circuit" destinations to the six existing ones on its free air route map, the Gehlot government has also decided to add two more pilgrimage-circuits on its free rail travel routs.
The senior citizens going to Pashupatinath Temple will be flown free of cost to Kathmandu, while those heading for Gangasagar-Dakshineshwar Kali-Velur Math will be flown to Kolkata, the statement said.
The elderly pilgrims heading to Uttarkhand's shrines will avail free air travel till Dehradun, the statement said, adding their onward travels will then be facilitated through bus.
The two new circuits added to the rail route map are Srigovardhan-Nandgaon-Barsana-Mathura-Vrindavan circuit and Ajmer (Ajmer Sharif)-Delhi (Dargah of Sheikh Nizamuddin Auliya)-Fatehpur-Sikri-Agra (Dargah of Sheikh Salim Chishti), the statement said.
With the new additions, the Rajasthan government will now be providing free air travel to its senior citizens to nine destinations and free rail travel to eight destinations, the statement said.
The decision to add more destinations for free pilgrimage for elderly state residents were taken Wednesday after modifying the state's Senior Citizens Pilgrimage Scheme, the statement said.
Announcing the decision, State Tourism and Devsthan Department Minister Vishvendra Singh said, "5,000 passengers will go by airplane and another 5,000 by rail this year."
Applications to avail the benefit of the scheme can be made from July 5, he added.
Under the modified scheme, citizens aged 65 years or more going by train can now take one person to assist them, said the statement.
The facility was earlier available only for pilgrims above the age of 70 years.
The retired government employees will also be able to avail the scheme, said the statement, adding five per cent seats among the pilgrims would be reserved for journalists aged 60 years or more.
