INDORE: In a decision that will provide big relief to senior citizens, private hospitals in Indore have agreed to provide 10-20% discount to them on treatment. The decision will soon be implemented.
Private hospitals have reached the consensus to provide relief to senior citizen at a meeting called by the health department on Monday. Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Ashok Dagaria said, "Senior citizens face problem in hospitals due to a variety of reasons. One of the reasons is expensive treatment. We have called a meeting of nursing home association in which private hospitals have agreed to provide 10-20% discount. Notification in this regard will soon be released."
Madhya Pradesh government had implemented Senior Citizens Act in 2009 to provide comfort and cushion to elderly facing torture from their children or are on the verge of penury. However nothing much was done. Of late, the health department has taken an initiative to provide benefits.
The benefits will be reservation of beds in government and government-aided hospitals, separate windows on different counters and free medical treatment in each district hospital of the state. According to district administration, there are at least 40,000 senior citizens in Indore district for whom government has asked to provide medical facilities.
"We are making arrangements in district hospital to open a separate window for senior citizens so that they don't face problem. Free medicine and investigation facility is already available and we will enlarge the ambit of health services," Dr Dagaria said.
