UP govt to organize free trip to Golden temple for senior citizens

Meerut: The Uttar Pradesh government in collaboration with Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will organize a free pilgrimage to Golden temple for senior citizens in the State.
As many as 1,044 citizens would benefit from the free four-day pilgrimage. The instructions given by the UP governor in this regard has been circulated through a government order of principal secretary Navneet Sehgal.
"The trip is mainly for senior citizens who are residents of Uttar Pradesh. It is being organised in collaboration with IRCTC and interested residents will be provided a free trip from Lucknow to Amritsar. The travel to Lucknow from other districts of the State will also be free and will be scheduled via Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) buses," according to the GO.
The trip is scheduled from August 8 to 11. Those interested can either apply online on samajwadishravanyatra.upgov.info or submit their application to the respective district magistrates till July 30.
"From each district, a maximum of 10 applicants will be allowed for the travel - on first come first serve basis. The remaining will be decided at the state government level. A waiting list will also be made so that if anyone backs off, another resident can be accommodated. The order also states that the passengers would be given free food and each coach of the train would have two doctors, three nurses, tour operator and a security guard to ensure that the passengers have a safe and hassle-free travel.
