Bangalore, Jun 12: State health minister, U T Khadar, seems to be on
an announcement spree of beneficial measures to improve the quality of
life of the individuals. After giving rise to widespread debate by
announcing ban on use of gutkha and paan masala in the state recently,
Khadar has announced a scheme of providing free dentures to toothless
senior citizens free of cost.

"Senior citizens without teeth are unable to properly relish the
things of their choice. They also hesitate to let out a hearty laugh.
Therefore, the government will provide dentures to edentulous people
over 65 years of age free of cost. This measure is taken to ensure
that toothless people also are able to enjoy their food. This is a
little effort from the government's side to make the life a little
more comfortable amidst their advancing age," Khadar clarified.

The minister noted that most of the senior citizens suffer from dental
problems, and because of financial problems, they are unable to invest
on dentures. The health department will soon come out with a scheme to
supply dentures free of cost to these people," he said.

Nagu-Magu: Khadar further said that the health department will soon
implement a scheme titled 'Nagu-Magu', under which the postpartum
women are taken to their homes at government expense, safely and free
of cost.

He also wanted the health department to make an entry about the birth
of every child in the computers, and send reminders through cell phone
messages to mothers when the due dates of vaccinations draw nearer.

He also explained about an ambitious programme of the health
department,'104', under which people living in remote hamlets or hilly
terrain can get information about health and preliminary treatments
for ailments by calling the toll-free number, '104'. This number can
also be used to file complaints about the improper maintenance and
services at primary health centres, he added.
